Constitutionalists (so called) should make up their minds

Do they or do they not want "activist" judges? When judges stray from the duties constitutionalists honk they should have, they get upset. When judgesexplainthat something is outside their control, they get upset.

So,tell me. Do you or do you not want activist judges? Or do you just want them to be "activist" in your favor?

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol. Get to the theater NOW

The fourth movie in the Mission Impossible franchise was everything a great movie should be. Suspense, action, intrigue, laughs. It all came together last night for me and my friends and what appeared to be the rest of the audience. Audible gasps during scenes at the hotel in Dubai. Laughter at the funny scenes. And, near the end a couple of surprises for those of us who'd seen previous movies.

I've enjoyed all the movies in the series. This was the best of the bunch. Unlike some series (pirates of the caribbean is, for me, a notable example where none of the sequels lived up to the originality and fun of the original).

Loved, loved, loved this outing in the series. Way to go Tom Cruise, the rest in an excellent cast, Brad Bird and everyone involved in the making of this picture. I watch a lot of movies. I can't remember the last time I was this entertained. Twelve hours later and I'm still enchanted.

Thank you for a wonderful film.

Obama vs. Romney it'd be fun

Let's see. Neither candidate's father was born in the USA. How much grief do you suppose Romney would get compared to Obama for this? Given that evangelicals don't seem to like Mormons or Kenyan socialist communist whatever else they can make up-it's, it would be entertaining if nothing else. Terrible for democracy that certain (not all, i know) evangelicals stoop that low, but entertaining.

For someone who thinks others should follow rules Gingrich sure makes up a lot

Great. Run a write-in campaign in a state that doesn't allow them in primaries. Have a little trouble with rules sir? For someone who insists that gays not challenge the rule of law you sure make up a bunch of reasons to flaut the law.

I would vote for Gary Johnson in a minute

It's too bad that our political system doesn't give the more moderate candidates - on either side of the aisle - a chance at winning a primary. No wonder there's so much partisan rancour.

I'd vote for Johnson in a minute. Do I agree with everything he stands for? Absolutely not. Does he seem reasoned and well-thought out? Absolutely. Does he seem to "get" that there are folks that don't agree with him but that they, too, can be good Americans? Yes.

Give him a chance folks.

Yesterday's Big Gay Agenda

Let's see, yesterday was so very, very gay.

Took the dogs on a one-mile walk in the early morning.
Headed to work and while there had a couple meetings and then went to yet another holiday luncheon.

Oh, yeah. I refinanced the house to a lower interest rate. No points. No closing costs. But am going to save a ton of money. Yeah!

So. Again. I say to you scaredy cat heterosexuals (and, yes, I realize there aren't that many of you, but it's fun to rile you up) gays are scary. We do weird things like refinancing our homes. Oh. Wait. You do that, too? Well, I'll just bet you don't walk your dogs. Oh. That, too?

Hmm. Will have to think harder for today's "Big Gay Agenda."

Gingrich is brilliant. Scary. But brilliant

What better way to get "real" people on your side than to have entrenched political powers (politicians, conservative media like The Wall Street Journal) against you?

Yes. Outlawing courts the way Nazi Germany did seems a bit dangerous (o.k. a lot dangerous), taking on dictatorial powers (if the courts don't agree I'll disband them) rather than being part of a three part government where the courts protect the people from politicians both liberal and conservative (health care, interracial marriage, desegregation and so on) seems like a good way to protect the people from those in power.

Problem is, people are pissed at those in power so if someone is running against those in power, seems like a good way to win for me.

Scares the shit out of me. But still, brilliant.

Newt unclear on the fact there are three equal branches of government

Let's see. The courts ruled against popular opinion with desegregation. Most states outlawed interracial marriage at the time courts overturned those prohibitions.

Newt Gingrich is an idiot.

DISGUSTING AND HATEFUL REPUBLICANS IN MINNESOTA

These assholes demanded a vote of the people on gay marriage (seeking a constitutional amendement to make an already unrecognized relationship extra-super unrecognized)

fucking hypocrites can't control their own fucking relationships.

go to hell you fucking christian BIGOTS. That's right. BIGOTS. You want to degrade my relationship? Well. You already degraded your own. Gingrich and his multiple wives. Amy Koch and her extra-curricular activity. Mind your own fucking business and let me live my life you assholes.

http://www.minnpost.com/stories/2011/12/16/33912/latest_amy_koch_developments_complicate_gop_plans_across_the_board

Disgusting hypocrites in the Minnesota Senate. Amy Koch is a @#$%^^^%$%$

I am horrified. The majority leader of the state senate in Minnesota is resigning her leadership post because of an "inappropriate relationship" with a senate staffer. She's married and has a kid.

AND she was part of the group that INSISTED that Minnesotans be given the right to vote on a constitutional amendment denying lbgt people marriage. LGBT people are already denied marriage by statute. But these $%^$#$## wanted to make it extra super illegal for our relationships to be recognized.

http://www.minnpost.com/stories/2011/12/16/33912/latest_amy_koch_developments_complicate_gop_plans_across_the_board

I WANT TO VOTE ON HER MARRIAGE. HELL I WANT TO VOTE ON HER EXTRA-MARITAL ACTIVITY.

FUCKING HYPOCRITICAL SELF-RIGHTEOUS STINKING CHRISTIAN REPUBLICANS.

Christian rights mean gays and others must be denied theirs

I just don't get it. No one is stopping Christians from worshipping in their churches in this country. But they want to stop me from having my civil rights outside their church. Why do they insist on a right to impact my civil rights while screaming at the top of their lungs that I shouldn't have rights?

My tax rights have nothing to do with their worship.

http://www.cwfa.org/content.asp?id=20808

I mean really. Calling for a boycott of a secular company that supports lgbt people while calling for the USA to stop "boycotting" countries that hurt lgbt people. I guess one more maimed lgbt person is one more point in heaven.

I don't get it.

Missing the point. Lowe's and All American Muslim

I think the folks screaming about the free speech rights of Lowe's are missing the point. Who cares where they spend their advertising dollars. In most ways I don't. But. And I mean this. Without - apparently - looking into the one person (paid anyway) shop in Florida calling for an advertiser boycott, they caved. They listened to hate without thinking about it and then defended it by saying folks have strong opinions. Really? I'm not sure I buy that. Would they have listened to a call for a boycott of a Christian show? Or a show that featured (non Muslim of course) blacks or African Americans? Or just despised minorities like Muslims and lgbt people? Do your research before buying into hate. Please.

Gotta love Newt's plan for reducing the deficit.

Wait. What? His tax pan would add to the deficit? Exponentially? Hmm.

My big gay agenda for today

Icky weather overnight. Will probably have to leave for town early so I'm prepared for slippery roads.

Did some circuit training this morning.
Blogged (duh)
Tweated
ate breakfast
played with the dogs

My day in civilization starts with a Board meeting. We're going to talk about a grant to a local library for furniture.

Then, on to a couple of meetings at work and some other stuff.

Then, back home tonight for movie night if the Netflix movie shows up today (it should).

Wow. Gay people sure know how to live it up. No wonder so many Christians are against humanizing us and insist on voting on our civil rights. We are a wild and crazy bunch.

Rethinking the 14th

No. Really. Conservatives are making a good argument that the 14th amendment applies to non-slaves. You know. People like women. Maybe even "the gays."

Wow.

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/jurisprudence/2011/12/how_conservatives_learned_to_stop_fighting_the_14th_amendment_and_what_it_could_mean_for_gay_marriage.html

More Christian Love.

Wow. And they think homosexuals and atheists and such have hate? Maybe they should look in the mirror.

http://catholiclane.com/you-whiny-sniveling-little-atheists-are-pathetic/

And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love, and they'll know we are Christians by our love. Or not. Look in the mirror. You have a lot of hate in your heart.

Finally, a reason to not hate Starbucks

Personally, I prefer home brewed coffee. And, I live 70 miles from the nearest Starbucks so even if I didn't I can't have it that often.

Here's a reason to seek out a Starbucks next time I'm in the big city:

Hate in the name of Jesus. What a great idea

I guess my Bible must be wrong. It talks about loving one another and loving our neighbors as ourselves. But this self-professed "Christian" doesn't see it that way.

Disgusting excuse for a Christian.

FRC and bestiality

Ha. Freakin' idiots. Instead of screaming about bestiality (which is gross, granted) why don't they scream about separating the sentence that makes consenting acts between adults and bestiality separate. Why they want te be in my bedroom is beyond me. Why they don't get the difference between what CONSENTING ADULTS do in private and a crime (what animal ever "consented" to being violated by a human? it's disgusting).

BREAKING NEWS!!! New Hampshire legislators pose threat to others, AREN'T pepper sprayed

What a relief. When protestors sitting on a sidewalk (yeah, yeah, they were asked to leave. forget the part where peaceful assembly is allowed in the Constitution) pose a "threat" they get the ever living snot pepper sprayed out of them.

But state legislators chasing down government officials and banging on doors? Well, that's democracy in action.

This church contains a lot of cowards

What? 40 people left so they wouldn't have to vote on whether to allow interracial couples to participate in church worship? COWARDS. You're either bigots or you're tolerating bigotry. In the Bible I read, Jesus sat down with/hung out with the outcasts. He accepted the unacceptable. You cowards are just creating more outcasts.

I really thought the song I learned as a kid "and they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love, and they'll know we are Christians by our love" meant something. Turns out it means figuring out who's "out" (brown people who might have immigrated to this country, gays, and interracial couples) and who's in (lily white folks who hate others?) I believe in God, but I sure as heck don't believe in Christianity anymore.

And the exact SECOND that someone says "well, gosh, not all Christians are like that" they'd better be saying that very few Muslims are terrorists, because I've been hearing for YEARS that if Muslims don't stand up to the extremists than they're part of the problem.

WELL CHRISTIANS...WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO STAND UP TO THE HATE IN YOUR MIDST? WHEN?

When do heterosexual soldiers have to shut up about their relationships?

Never? That's exactly as it should be. Whether someone in the military is in a relationship or not shouldn't be my business (unless of course the relationship is with a spy or something like that).

The way that Republicans are obsessed with gay relationships is kind of creepy. The way they'll boo a soldier who's put his life on the line for the rest of us is downright unpatriotic.

My Big Gay Agenda

Take a shower. Go to work.

You Christian heterosexuals who want to deny me rights scared yet? oooh.. She's going to go to work. Be afraid be very afraid.

Really?

What does it say when hating a group more is important to being president

Thanks for nothing Rick Santorum. I pay taxes. I have a job.  I have health insurance (not through the government like medicare folks). And yet, you think denying people like me rights more fervantly than your competition makes  you more qualified to be president. Thanks for nothing.

My Gay Agenda

Let's see. Need to brush my teeth and otherwise get ready for work. We're in the middle of a charitable campaign, so probably going to attend a fundraiser for the charity sometime. Might go for a walk with some co-workers at break. Oh, yeah, gotta blog a little and check out an ebay auction (bidding on a sports card doncha know). probably have to walk the dogs again later today - they're too lazy to figure out how to open the door by themselves. Will probably pet the cat sometime, too. The air here is really dry as the season changes so might have to pick my nose or something when no one's looking. Just yelled "vinegar" at one of the dogs. He likes to jump over the baby gate and root around in the cat boxes. I think it's disgusting so I yell "vinegar" which to him means get back on this side of the baby gate.

So. That's my gay agenda for today.

Oh great. The cat just hacked up a hairball.

Gotta add to my gay agenda.

I'm going to move to Michigan so i can bully christians

Ha. Ha. Idiots. If they think the bullying exemption applies only to them and their anti-gay animus they're idiots. If it applies to them, it applies to Muslims and Wiccans and Christians who believe in equal and human rights. And atheists.

Catholic hierarchy are idiots

Look. Some of my best friends are Catholics. I went to Catholic high school (I wasn't raised Catholic). But this is pure and utter idiocy.

Really. They're arguing that unless gay people continue to be oppressed; they'll be oppressed. Really? Unless you can oppress others you're oppressed? That's stupid. I know for a fact that the Catholic church doesn't like to marry a Catholic to a non-Catholic (witness my very good friends. He was divorced; she wasn't; they had to have a civil marriage). So ... taken to the extreme, the Catholic hierarchy should be arguing that only the marriage between two non-divorced Catholics should count. Lots of religious groups don't marry various folks - divorced, inter-faith, etc. Gays aren't any different.

Arguing that you have to be allowed to oppress others is as non-Christian a thing as I can think of. Wait. Molesting little girls and boys, too. But the Catholic church mostly just pretends that doesn't happen.

Don't change the tax rate; just make corporations pay it. Or heck, pay half of it. Any of it?

Wow. A loophole that allows a company to pay a negative tax rate? Let's see. We're at war. We have bridges that need building, students that need educating, elderly (and others) who need medical care ... and on and on. And, instead of focusing on what companies are really paying, Congress is busy having kittens about having the highest corporate tax rate in the world. I'd care if big companies paid it. But they don't. They leave the little companies who can't afford lobbyists or offshoring jobs to pay it.

Thanks for looking after the little guy government.

Santorum needs a new hobby

He spends waaaayyy too much time thinking about and talking about sex and when people should have it and where and so on. This conversation with Bradlee Dean seems to go beyond homosexual activities and to what heterosexuals should(n't) be doing as well.

Then again, he's talked about contraception recently, so maybe he really does want some sort of task force making sure everyone does "it" right.

Talk about smaller government. Just small enough to fit in my (and your) bedroom.

Remember when Republicans labeled Democrats as "traitors" Well, now they are, maybe

There's a reason I'm not enamored of either political party. The vitriol with which Republicans are attacking Obama is as unpatriotic as much of what was said about Bush.

And, I really don't "get" why Republicans insist that we be in Iraq and spend more and more billions when we can't figure out how to educate our children, fund health care for the poor, build bridges and so on.

I can't be a Republican anymore. And I'm surely not a Democrat. I like and despise things said by pundits on both sides of the aisle. I've rarely read anything by Republican Joe Scarborough that I don't like. His take on attitudes re: the war in Iraq ending are interesting. I remember when my last president was attacked by opponents (or should I say the way he was attacked. I didn't like being in Iraq from day one, but the vitriol then and now does no party - or the country - any good).

Music shaping the brain.

Wow. Music is amazing. I find it can enhance the mood I'm in, take me back to a time and place I haven't seen in years, express how I'm feeling, help me to not be distracted by annoying "noises."

There are so many ways music has shaped my life over the years. I just have to say "Delta Dawn" or "Tie me kangaroo down sport" or "oh Lord it's hard to be humble" and I'm a kid again listening to my mom sing. There are songs that make my heart leap ("Clocks" by Coldplay) and classical music that takes me to some ethereal plain (Brandenberg's Third Concerto), there are songs that make me cry ("Tonight is the Night I Fell Asleep at the Wheel" makes me remember my brother who, although he's no longer with us, didn't die in a car accident), and songs that make me laugh out loud ("Hell of It" by Paul Williams check it out right now!)

"Illegals" dehumanizing humans

The writer makes some really interesting points in this piece on dehumanizing not everyone who commits an illegal act, but a certain segment of society that may (or may not) have committed an illegal act.

But we don't want to offend captains of industry or parents who need (want?) a nanny, so we demonize the people who fill a need (whether they were born here or are here legally or not). We demonize brown people and gay people and single mothers and any group behaving in a way we don't like (though how a gay person paying taxes or a brown person carrying for a young shild are behaving in ways we don't like is beyond me.

Oh well. As long as we have someone to despise I guess we can feel better about ourselves.

Really?

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/10/24/mitt-romney-rick-perry-herman-cain-why-the-gop-demonizes-illegals.html

Well Shoot. I haven't seen Rick Perry's birth certificate. Maybe he's not really an American either.

I haven't seen Romney's either. Or Bachmann's. Hmm. What are they hiding? And why?

Very mysterious.

Or maybe not.

Christian oppression. They only way to avoid it is to be oppressed. I guess.

No idea the source of this cartoon. Found it on Joe My God. http://joemygod.blogspot.com/. Makes a pretty interesting argument I think. Why is it that those of us who view the Bible differently (or not at all) must make our lives fit into Christian lives (or at least one brand of it, there are Christian denominations that are in favor of same sex marriage) but they won't leave us to live our own lives. No one is forcing a Christian who doesn't want to, to marry a gay person. But Christians who aren't married to gay people (or pregnant or whatever) want to control what others do because somehow my having freedom means that they don't. Weird.

Why is society moved by stuff like this but still wants to vote?

How can we, in one case look at a couple who have been together for 70 years and be moved to tears by the love and joy two people have found with one another and in another breath say to another couple that they can't be together. That hospitals ought to be able to keep them apart. That they can be separated when they're dying.

Shame on us.

And great joy and, in the end, peace, to this couple. http://abcnews.go.com/US/iowa-couple-married-72-years-dies-holding-hands/story?id=14771029

Orly Taitz still needs a hobby

Social Security changed their number rules a while back. Obama has produced more evidence of his birth than any other non-brown president (i.e. the rest of them). Give it a break. If you don't like Obama, vote for the opposition. But, enough people voted for him that he is our president. And whether he's my party or not, he deserves at least a modicum of respect. Hate his policies if you must. Write letters against them. Fund the opposition.

But stop wasting the courts time. That, by definition, wastes my money. I'm a taxpayer.

What kind of America does Rick Santorum want? No funding for contraception? Sex only for procreation? Really? Do we all have to live in his little religious world? He sure as hell doesn't want to live in mine? Either give gays and women equal rights or give gays and women lower tax rates.

Why do Catholics insist on imposing their beliefs on others.

Look. If the Catholic Church doesn't want to marry gay people or ugly people, or people with curly hair or blue eyes or whatever, that's their business. They have religious freedom in this country.

But when the hell did they decide that they get to impose their belief on non-Catholics? How would they feel if Muslims were trying to impose their beliefs on them? Oh, wait. I can guess. Our country's gone all goooggly over some supposed "threat" of Shariah (sp?). So, we know how a lot of Christians would feel about having anothers' beliefs imposed on them.

Why is the Catholic church trying to impose their beliefs on me? I'm not Catholic. I pay taxes. I don't want the Catholic church running the public square.

Rick Santorum is a bigot

You know what Mr. Santorum? You are a bigot. You may not be able to, but all the gay people I know can shower without thinking about sex. Also you bigoted idiot, women are gay, too. Women are sexually assaulted all the time by their male colleagues in the military - and they don't shower together.

You are a hateful bigot.

Quick! Google Santorum

http://spreadingsantorum.com/

hee hee hee

Romney not a Christian. Who cares? Busy bodies.

Last time I checked there was nothing in the Constitution about the president having any sort of religion or going to religious services some set number of times in a year.

No matter the religion of the president (or lack of religion or life philosophy or whatever) he or she is going to be the president of all Americans. Not just born again Christians or Hassidic Jews or Wiccans or worshippers of the Goddess. Also, not just president of the people who voted for him or her. Not just president of married people or old people or toddlers or white people or striped people.

But all of us. Including folks who majored in history in college, folks who didn't go to college, doctors, lawyers, farmers, factory workers, gay people, straight people, people who don't know what they are, attractive people, not as attractive people, and so on.

To use Romney's religion against him is as un-American as anything I can think of.

If you don't like his policies (I don't) use those against him.

If you don't like his haircut or the style of suit that he wears or whatever, that should be out of bounds. Those things are personal choices. Romney's a Mormon. SO WHAT!!

Anti-equality cause is so righteous they hide and lie

http://politics.salon.com/2011/10/05/minnesota_gay_marriage_finance/

Pathetic liars called out at Salon.com and at the Minnesota Independent. If you must lie to win, your cause isn't really worthwhile. No one is forcing anyone at NOM to marry a gay person. My marriage has no impact on them. I don't get to decide who your life partner is and who inherits your social security benefits (or vice versa), stay away from my decisions. Thank you very much.

Minnesota may end up being the first state to actually defeat a gay marriage ban by popular vote. It’s far from a sure thing, with polls showing a split electorate, but a plurality of voters opposes enshrining a marriage ban in the state constitution. Anti-equality groups — the ones who got the legislature to put the state constitutional amendment on the 2012 ballot in the first place — are going to spend a fortune fighting to convince the on-the-fence voters that allowing same-sex couples to get hitched will somehow destroy the very fabric of society. They’ll have to fight Minnesota campaign finance law to do so.

The Minnesota Independent reports that the anti-gay marriage coalition will challenge the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board’s attempt to close donation disclosure loopholes. The National Organization for Marriage, the prominent national anti-equality group that has fought against disclosing donors in every campaign it’s been involved in, claims they’re the victims of “deliberate targeting by the government.” (NOM generally claims to be a victim, all of the time, of everyone.)

Until anti-choice advocates start advocating for the living I don't care what they say.

Really? Ultrasounds on pregnant women during a protest? Where are your protests for healthcare for the already born? Where are your protests for education  for the already born? For fair housing? For fair wages so the parent(s) of the already born can earn a decent living?

No? You're not interested?

Then you're nothing more than holier than thou busy bodies who should mind your own business.

http://minnesotaindependent.com/89288/crisis-pregnancy-clinics-invite-babies-to-lobby-congress-thursday

I thought lying was a sin. Catholic Church apparently disagrees.

If the only way you can win is to lie, maybe you should think about what it is you're trying to win.

Just a thought.

“It’s about preserving an important institution,” said Jason Adkins, executive director of the Minnesota Catholic Conference. “When you’re talking about marriage and changing the definition of marriage, you’re not creating a separate institution called same-sex marriage. You’re in fact redefining marriage for everyone.”

Adkins also suggests that failing to define marriage in the Constitution as a union between one man and one woman could lead to a slippery slope. “There’s little reason why you’d limit it to two people at all,” Adkins said. “What if a bisexual wants a partner of each kind, a man and a woman? Are you leaving that group out?”

If they really wanted to save marriage, maybe they'd work on divorces in their own house and deal with their own sexual predators. But no, they're telling lies about folks like me.

O.k. This is funny. Bill Donohue is an idiot

The Catholic League is demanding that the NFL drop Madonna. Um. Freedom of speech doesn't just count when folks say what you want. Either everyone gets it or you have to shut the fuck up, too.

It is time to stop the Hitler comparisons

I don't know when it started, but I remember President Bush being compared to Hitler. Obama is compared to Hitler on a regular basis as well. Folks who support one side seem to have no qualms about saying that a politician from the other side is being "like" Hitler or is fascist or communist or socialist or all three (and others at the same time). Either hyperbole has gone through the window or we really didn't pay attention in history class. So, here's a primer:

I didn't like President Bush still NOT Hitler-like Hitler-esque or anything close.
Don't care for a lot of what Obama has done. Still, he's not like Hitler.
Neither is Nancy Pelosi or John Boehner.
I loathe, loathe, loathe Rick Santorum and want everyone to Google his name. Doesn't mean he's anything like Hitler.

Neither is Michael Bloomberg or Mark Dayton or Newt ("I got better") Gingrich, or Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann or Harry Reid  or Herman Cain or Van Jones or Mitt Romney or Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden or anyone else in our government. They're all people of good will (some may be idiots but probably the folks I think are idiots aren't the same as the folks you think are idiots).

And, whether you're inebriated or not, saying that both sides of the aisle can't work together is ridiculous. Hank Williams Jr. has apologized for the latest gaffe. Any hope it can be the last?

My aunt asked me how I feel about politics. here's a short answer.

It would probably take a week of non-stop talking with no pauses for breaths to explain my feelings on politics.
Here’s the Cliff notes version.

1.       I left the Republican party after my mom died. I used to think if we just “did what we were supposed to” everything would be o.k. and the problem (as I saw it) with the Democrats was they always wanted to mess things up and create more rules. My mom dying shook that belief to the core. I don’t know if you know this – I kind of hope you do as it’s probably a bad way to learn something new – but my mom killed herself. My earliest memory is one of her suicide attempts. I believed as long as I could and as hard as I could that if you just did what you were supposed to bad things wouldn’t happen. Didn’t work. My mom died anyway.

2.       At the same time, I began to see what I’ll call hypocrisy in the Republican party. Small government types who believed in state’s rights and individual responsibility but who – at the exact same time – wanted to deny folks like me rights. I could marry someone named “Bill” tomorrow and have more civil rights than Penni and I will probably have in our lifetimes. Everything from Social Security to inheritance rights and so on. I didn’t really get (and still don’t) how small government equals the oppression of a minority. If I paid a lower tax rate than heterosexuals I might understand lesser rights. But I don’t and I still have them. Individual liberty, fewer regulations and son on coupled with wanting to be in my bedroom (and assuming that’s the only thing gay people think about) bothered me a lot.

3.       For many years I voted third party.

4.       In the mid- to late 2000’s I began to feel like I was throwing my vote away as a protest.

5.       In addition, it seemed to me that the party of small government had become big and bloated and interested in power. Bush took a surplus created by Clinton (never voted for Clinton; don’t regret that decision) and created a deficit. Add that to a bad economy and wars and it just didn’t make sense to me.

6.       I watched as Republican congresses and presidents insisted on unfunded wars and holding power over a woman’s body and using fear of folks like me to get folks to the polls and I was very bothered. I didn’t like the idea that we had to pay and pay and pay to fight unwinnable wars, and control a woman’s body (I have real moral problems with the idea of abortion) but that the same folks screaming about woman carrying their babies to term were also screaming that we were spending too much on education and healthcare and so on. I don’t get how it’s o.k. to have a 10 year (and counting) war that isn’t paid for but that we can’t figure out how to take care of our citizens in what I think is the greatest country on earth.

Then again, I’m absolutely convinced that the Democrats don’t have the answer either. I don’t think a third party is viable at a national level – though they’ve had some success at the state level. But I can’t vote for a Republican when they spend time talking about the “gay agenda.” My only agenda is getting up in the morning, going to work as long as I’m blessed to have a job, paying my bills, spending time with someone who cares about me, feeding the dogs, playing tennis. All the stuff that the folks screaming about my “agenda” do on a daily basis, too.

Arrested Development back for a 4th season? Dare I hope?

I loved Arrested Development. I own the DVDs. I watch it when I catch it on tv. It's one of the few shows I've found literally "laugh out loud" funny. Loved the Bluths.

More rumors that it may be coming back give me hope. I hope it's not false hope.

Stunningly beautiful home in Poway, California

I can't think of anything not to like. The home is stunning. The color (I don't care for beige with accent pillows. I like color on the walls) of the home, the wood, the pool. It's just about perfect.

http://18720oldcoachway.com/home

My spouse and I watched football all day

Wonder how many heterosexual marriages we destroyed with our conduct?

None?

Good.

Rick Perry's hunting camp

I really must have been born and flat-out stayed naive.

I understand there are a ton of questions about who owned the property when and how quickly the racist word on the rock was painted over and whether or not Perry knew the word was there, etc., etc.

I'm mostly just stunned that in the 1980's a word I - at that time when I was a much younger person - had long known was inappropriate and offensive.

I guess I just really don't get the way that "we" (the proverbial "we", not anyone in particular) hang on to our heritage so hard that we don't see racism when it's staring us right in the face.

Texas sonogram law is just more bullshit

If the idiots who are "pro-life" were really pro-life, they'd be arguing really hard for health care for children post birth. and for education and and and. but they're not. they're just idiots.

Newt Gingrich needs to read the F*^^ng Bible. IDIOT

According to Newt Gingrich, when asked about gay marriage:  "I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. It has been for all of recorded history and i think this is a temporary aberration that will dissipate."

Fucking liar. Even in the Bible there are many stories of polygamy. Marriage used to be a legal contract where a man got to own a woman and her property.

Fucking serial adulterer.

http://caucuses.desmoinesregister.com/2011/09/30/gingrich-same-sex-marriage-is-a-temporary-aberration/

I have lost all respect for fucking liars like fucking Newt Gingrich who tell LIES in order to hurt their fellow citizens.

fucking liar.

Googling Santorum.

This just never gets old:

Family Research Council defends bigoted clerk

Curious. Would they defend a clerk who wouldn't provide a license to two Mormons because of her "sincerely held" religious beliefs? Or two Muslims? Or a black guy who wanted to marry an Asian woman?

Would they defend a gay or lesbian clerk who didn't want to marry two heterosexuals because of "sincerely held" religious beliefs?

How about a Muslim clerk living out his or her faith on the job who didn't want to marry a Baptist and a Catholic (or any other combination of folks)?

I'm guessing not.

http://www.frc.org/washingtonupdate/laura-ingraham-adds-to-summit-star-power

Let's see. Constitution doesn't apply to: Muslims, Mormons, gays, and who exactly else

Why the heck does Bryan Fischer even have a radio show anymore? And why is he a featured speaker at an upcoming Republican candidate event?

Um. Really? Guess the Constitution only applies to white, landed men. How convenient for them. How bogus for the rest of us.

Catholic bishop - we must discriminate against gays to prevent discrimination against Christians.

Really? You idiot. You demand continued discrimination of a minority?

How fucking Christ-like of you.

"He also argued that traditional marriage is best for society, and that treating gay marriage as a civil right would lead to discrimination against believers and against church agencies that could not, for example, accommodate gay couples as adoptive parents."

Halloween = devil worship

It'd be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Everyone just get a grip. Halloween is no more about Satan than Christmas is about Santa. Or is that Jesus? I can never keep that straight. Especially when I'm supposed to hear "merry christmas" when I go shopping anytime between October and Jan. 1. 'Cause Jesus was all about presents. Right? Right.

If being opposed to bullying is a liability for a Republican candidate this country has a problem.

And the problem's name is Tony Perkins. Or Rick Santorum. Or any number of other folks who use fear and lies about their fellow citizens to get people to vote and/or give them money.

Santorum says no sex in the military

Um, What the fuck are you going to do about all the heterosexual soldiers having babies? Chastity belts? Mandatory condoms? They can only do "santorum" because that doesn't count as sex?

What the fuck are you some kind of fucking idiot?

I'm gonna go Google and Bing your name about six more times. You are one sick bastard Santorum.

You know what Santorum? I'm googlin (and Binging) your fucking name.

Fuck him and his gays want special rights CRAP FEST. Gay soldiers didn't get any special rights with the repeal of DADT. Unless you consider being allowed to fucking die for your country some kind of special right.

It wasn't about sex you fucking pervert. It was about people who could be blackmailed. People who could be "outed" by others and fucking kicked out of the fucking military and no longer allowed to serve their (our, my, your) country.

I hope your frothy mix definition follows you forever.  Your great grandchildren can be embarrassed about their fucking hateful ancestor.

Dear Tea Party Republicans, How FUCKING DARE YOU Booing an active duty soldier

You know, this is getting ridiculous.

I have several cousins who serve in the military. More than a couple of them are in harms way. No, they're not gay, but they're fighting along men and women who are. They're doing something I've never done (I tried; I couldn't; I had a medical condition) and that most people in any audience not on a military hasn't done ...

They're putting their lives on the line to follow government policy and to keep us safe.

How fucking DARE they boo an active duty soldier for asking a respectful question.

Hey Santorum has a Bing and Yahoo! problem, too.

No seriously, check it out.

hee hee hee

Santorum whines about his Google problem

But, has apparently forgotten why he has one. You can't say mean and hateful things in the internet age and not pay an internet price.

Also, if Google is going to start editing my search results then I don't trust them anymore. As Google says, it's a search engine.

"Don't Ask Don't Tell" may be over but we still have a long way to go

Not having to hide sexual orientation (i.e. being able to say "Bill and I" if you're a guy or "Betsy and I" if you're a woman) has not brought equality to the military or any other facet of life in this country.

Gay peoples' spouses still aren't entitled to Social Security survivor benefits.
Gay people still can't file federal (or in most cases state) income taxes together
Even when a company allows a GLBT person to put their spouse/partner on their healthcare benefits, it's a taxable event. Hey 'ros it's not taxable to you!!
Gay partners in most states can't be part of civil suit when their gay partner is murdered
Gay people can't inherit estates the way 'ros can.

and on and on.

DADT does nothing for me as I couldn't be in the military. I still want equal rights or a god damned fucking lower tax rate.

Leno confronts Bachmann

He does it nicely.

I'm curious, if marriage has "always" been what Bachmann says, how to explain all the changes over the years. Like, for instance, women being able to own property. Or interracial marriage. Or black being able to be married without their "owners" (God, slavery was horrible. writing that word just about made me throw up) approval.

Stupid Netflix doesn't do its stupid homework in coming up with Qwikster

The folks at AFA are weird. God fixes everything but water shortages I guess. Maybe it's "the gays" fault?

Proof that you don't need "the gays" to destroy marriage

You just need a really disturbed person willing to murder his wife and bring trauma and horror to others.

http://www.startribune.com/nation/130067243.html

One more reason, in the middle of a horrific crime, that gay rights matter

Somehow, it's just not bad enough that this guy was brutally murdered, now, the love of his life is suffering even more.

Conservatives need to quit pretending that gay folks aren't capable of "real" relationships. These two were together longer than my own man/woman parents.

Bachmann and HPV vaccine

Just a thought. Given how horrible cervical cancer is and the fact that HPV vaccine can save literally thousands of lives, why, oh why, do we still have to listen to stuff that Bachmann makes up?

http://www.startribune.com/opinion/otherviews/129995868.html

The "I never said I was a doctor" excuse is baloney when she tells parents - who also aren't doctors - to make up their own mind when she throws out the made up fact that HPV causes "retardation"

Half the staff working at Focus to destroy the lives of others

As the totally awesome bumper sticker says: "Focus on your own Family"

http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_18912132

There's still a lot of hate out there toward gays and Muslims and single mothers and poor people. But, for now anyway, there's going to be a little less hate (wait, no, it's "love" blah ha ha) coming from Focus.

If there is anything LESS Christian than abandoning a spouse with Alzheimer's

Pat Robertson is one sick piece of humanity.

Really, "til death us do part" only counts if your spouse doesn't get sick with alzheimer's?  The man who claims that gays who want to be together is the reason for earthquakes and floods and such, goes DIRECTLY against Christ's teaching that divorce is bad when it's, oh, I don't know, "inconvenient" to stay married?

And these are the Christians we listen to and follow. No wonder I gave up Christianity.

Bachmann making DANGEROUS stuff up

It's one thing to lie when you're hiding in the bushes at a gay rights rally. It's quite another to lie about a vaccine that safes THOUSANDS of lives a year. Diseases we thought were basically wiped out are making a comeback because of the anti-vaccine crowd.

Stirring them up for political gain is dangerous. It's irresponsible. And it's sure as hell not presidential.

Um. What the hell is Torgerson up to?

If a sitting U.S. Congressman can be a radical Muslim in Torgerson's eyes, is there any Muslim who's o.k.? I'm guessing not. Why is any Muslim "radical" but truly "radical" Christians who want to impose their beliefs on others are okey dokey?

Get your stinkin religion out of my public space. I am actually a religious person. I just don't believe your schtick and really don't want you imposing it on me or anyone else. And I really don't think that every (or really very many actually) Muslims are "radical" most of the folks I've met seem to be like everyone else. They want to live their lives, make a living, take care of their families and so on.

Science vs. God or Science and God

It's weird to me that for so many it has to be one or the other. Isn't the fact that the universe is amazing and the fact that we can be amazed by that fact proof enough that science and God are both amazing?

There really shouldn't be any need for idiocy. But here's some anyway:

How do you violate "freedom of speech" without actually violating freedom of speech

Did the terrorists win?

I don't know. I remember 9-11. And I remember how quickly we came together in the midst of unbelievable tragedy. But 10 years later I think in some ways the terrorists might have won. We've been at war for 10 years. Wars that have cost thousands of American lives. Wars that have cost trillions of dollars. Wars that have brought soldiers home in pieces, destroyed families, ruined lives.

We dutifully take our shoes off to go through airport screening, stand by while toddlers and grandmothers are searched and think we're safe or that if we object we're whiny.

When, really, we've turned on each other. We don't want mosques built, we don't want gays to have rights, we stand by while we continue to kill in foreign parts of the world but object when "liberals" want to spend money on healthcare for women or children or the unemployed.

We accuse the unemployed of being lazy while we ask them to fight to get jobs that pay significantly less than the jobs they lost and ask them to take jobs that don't offer healthcare or whatever.

We demand continued tax breaks for the rich while ignoring the plight of the middle class. We don't want the government funding programs to help the poor 'cause it makes them lazy or something, forgetting that they need to eat too.

We must have spending cuts to make up for costs associated with the worst flooding in years (maybe every?) on the East Coast and have kittens when anyone objects to the human and financial costs associated with our never-ending wars.

I was horrified by 9-11. I watched the news and I watched Congress and the President pull together.

But now? I think the terrorists might have won after all.

Bachmann is NOT funny. Hurricanes are not God's way of speaking to her

People died. Not politicians that God was trying to get to pay attention. People.

Maybe the hurricane was God's way of telling people like Bachmann to mind their business and stay out of the bedrooms of consenting adults.

Maybe the hurricane was God's way of telling Americans that our stupid presidential contests take too long.

Or maybe, just maybe, it just happened.

Whether it was a joke or not. It wasn't funny.

Idiotic New York clerks

Let's see, if a Muslim clerk refused to marry Christians, would that be a problem? What if a Jewish clerk refused to marry atheists? Or a Baptist clerk refused to marry an Episcopalian and a Presbyterian?

And, one last freakin' time. Civil rights for gays isn't going to F**king lead to civil rights for rocks, pencils, pieces of paper, goats, chickens, DVDs, and so on. None of those can sign a legal agreement and for all you idiots out there a civil marriage (you know, the one that gives you all sorts of fucking rights that a religious marriage does not) is a legal agreement.

Bachmann camp keeps it classy in Iowa

You know what folks? We're all Americans. You can't just talk to the echo chamber and shoving people? Really?

Oh look. Follks like Michele Bachmann were responsible for the S&P downgrade

No wonder she "knew" it would happen. The tea party will destroy this entire country and all our financial futures in order to destroy the president.

A Standard & Poor’s director said for the first time Thursday that one reason the United States lost its triple-A credit rating was that several lawmakers expressed skepticism about the serious consequences of a credit default — a position put forth by some Republicans.

Orly Taitz stopped being funny a long time ago

From a Honolulu newspaper: http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/127571568.html

A California lawyer filed a lawsuit in state court this week seeking to review President Obama's long-form birth certificate.

Obama released copies of the certificate on April 27 showing that he was born at what is now known as Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children on Aug. 4, 1961.

Orly Taitz, who is representing herself, said in her lawsuit filed on Wednesday that she questions Obama's legitimacy to be president.

The Attorney General's Office declined to comment, but wrote a letter addressed to Taitz and dated Monday saying she is not entitled to inspect the birth record.

It's cute the way "smaller government" means more control over our lives

Let's see. Government should be out of our lives. We pay too many taxes, we have too much regulation.

But, gosh darn it, we need to regulate the lives of consenting same-sex adults.

Support for marriage equality is not a popular position among those in the 2012 Republican primary field. All of the major candidates oppose it. Former Utah governor Jon Huntsman is the only one to even back civil unions.

Meanwhile Santorum (quick, google him) compares gay marriage to napkins ... or something

"This is a napkin. I can call this napkin a paper towel, but it is a napkin," Santorum declared at the local Hy-Vee grocery store.

"You can it whatever you want but it doesn't change the character of what it is to the metaphysical," he continued. "Now we can call it marriage but doesn't make it marriage," Santorum concluded, shaking the napkin in mid-air.

Santorum's metaphors go beyond paper products. The former senator has also used a water versus beer analogy to make his point. In a video from the Des Moines Register posted on C-SPAN today, Santorum said marriage is like a glass of water, not beer.

"It's like saying this glass of water is a glass of beer. Well, you can call it a glass of beer, but it's not a glass of beer. It's a glass of water. And water is what water is. Marriage is what marriage is," said Santorum , who defines it as a union between a man and woman.

In another appearance Tuesday, Santorum delivered a more muddled message on the issue, reports NBC's Alex Moe. First he told voters, "We can't have 50 marriage laws in this country...it's not equal treatment under the law." But moments later, he said he would not seek to tell states what to do despite his opinion: "I'm against gay marriage but you know I'm not going to tell the states what to do."

Being gay is like picking a favorite ice cream flavor

So says Allen West. Really.

You can't make this shit up.

In a meeting with the Sun-Sentinel's editorial board yesterday -- which was also recorded on video -- West talked about fixing the nation's debt problem, his vote to increase the debt ceiling, the credit rating downgrade, Islam, his spat with Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and of course, the gays.

Katy Perry - Last Friday Night

Black and Jewish - Parody from Funny or Die

Me? I'm gonna die laughing.

And another ruined song

Really? Even this one? Sigh.

A song from the '80s ruined by the fact that it's (allegedly) about sex.

Man, I was naive growing up. Turns out all the best songs were really about sex.

Million Dollar Car Crash.

Sorry. Couldn't resist. There are tons of articles on this story about a Bentley crashing into four cars in Monte Carlo. Photo below is from: http://aftermarket.autoblog.com/2011/07/28/female-driver-causes-supercar-catastrophe-in-monte-carlo/

Favorite subhead is here: A blonde woman driving a Bentley crashes into an Aston Martin, Ferrari, Mercedes, and Porsche. Insert punch line here.

Here's how it (allegedly) happened:

What’s evident is that these five vehicles did not all converge on each other in one massive supercar big bang. The Bentley clearly was at fault. Its nose is pointing straight at the casino’s entrance, an entrance where fine cars are routinely valet-parked diagonally. It seems that the Bentley’s driver thought she could sneak past the white Mercedes, then swerved right when she realized they were going to collide, which in turn clipped the Rapide coming up on her right. The Ferrari and the Porsche were collateral damage - parked directly in the Bentley’s now diverted path.

States Rights RULE!! Wait. What? Gay marriage? NOOOOOO we must have a constitutional amendment

Watching Rick Perry backtrack on his states' rights statement about gay marriage would be funny if it wasn't so disingenuous. Really? He of the states need to take back federal power movement thinks that the feds should control (and disallow) gay marriage.

Hypocrite.

I'm gay so I guess I can't be a Republican anymore

Man, I remember what - for me anyway - were the heady days of Republicanism in the late '70s and early '80s. Maybe I was just young and naive, but the Republican party seemed to embrace folks from all walks of life. Now, various Republican factions are so busy figuring out who's out and who's in that I'm an Independent who finally had to stop voting third party in 2008 and vote for a Democrat. A Democrat! Think I'll be doing it again in 2012.

Sad.

Bradlee Dean sues. Can we sue back?

Let's see, Bradlee Dean is quoted by a couple of sources and sues. Can we sue him for the evil, horrible things he has said about gay people? 'Cause I could use a few bucks.

Fucking moron.

Pawlenty "same sex marriage defies common sense"

Here's some more stuff that defies common sense

1. Ketchup and gravity. Gravity works. Ketchup doesn't want to flow toward the ground. You have to squeeze it or shake the bottle really, really hard. Why?

2. It's really, really bad for individual consumers to declare bankruptcy and get out of their debts, but it's a good strategy for a big company and, apparently, when it comes to the debt ceiling, the federal government. Why?

3. Justin Beiber. Bieber? Biiber?

Orly Taitz stupidly toys with court ... or something

You've got to give Orly credit. Oh, wait, maybe you don't. She's involved in yet another screw up in another court and has been reprimanded. Again.

Attorney Orly Taitz "is either toying with the court or displaying her own stupidity,” wrote U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth yesterday in a memorandum and order (PDF) striking Taitz's filing because of repeated violations of a civil procedure rule that requires litigants not to include full social security numbers in pleadings.

The thing I don't get is that there are real problems in this country that courts could be working on. Issues that matter and that are real. Why oh why hasn't she lost her license to practice law yet?

Huge 2nd week drop for Undefeated

The documentary about Sarah Palin refused to ignite the cinema. Only $24k in its second week even though it went from 10 to 14 theatres.

Word is it's going to pay-per-view.

Hmm. Without better box office gross, are they going to be able to afford what it's going to cost for people to watch it?

Oh, wait, they're not paying us, we have to pay them?

Never mind.

Go ahead, blame all Muslims for the acts of a few; just don't blame Christians for the acts of a few.

Um. That doesn't make any sense. If it's o.k. to blame all Muslims for the despicable acts of a few, it's sure as heck o.k. to blame all Christians for the despicable acts of a few. Or, really, should we blame the folks who committed the acts? No? Well, then, Christians are as responsible for terrorism as Muslims. Or, better yet, most of us just want to live our lives and be left alone.

Mark Tapson of FrontPageMag claims that Breivik’s actions did great damage to the cause of “Christian conservatives and critics of Jihad,” insisting that the progressive movement can’t “contain its collective glee” about the shooter’s far-right views:
Now a new McVeigh has arisen, a symbol that the Left and Islamic supremacists themselves will use to bludgeon Christian conservatives and critics of jihad for the next sixteen years – Anders Behring Breivik. Breivik is in police custody for carrying out what some are calling Norway’s “Oklahoma City,” a reference to McVeigh’s 1995 bombing, of course. Breivik, who claims to have acted alone, set off a massive bomb that devastated an Oslo government building and killed seven, then traveled to a nearby youth camp for hundreds of teen children of Labour Party politicians, where he proceeded to massacre as many as 90 of them with ruthless, methodical gunfire.

The first thing we'll do is annul all the marriages

Do people NOT have better things to do? Your'e going to fight to annul marriages? Really? How 'bout this, go back to minding your business and recognizing that GAY PEOPLE PAY TAXES, TOO!
State Sen. Ruben Diaz, a minister who was the sole Democrat to vote against gay marriage when the Legislature approved it, told a crowd near the United Nations that he and other opponents would try to get Sunday’s marriages annulled, saying judges broke the law by waiving the 24-hour waiting period without a good reason.
